Manuka Health MGO 500 + Manuka Honey
MGO™ 550+ Manuka Honey has a naturally occuring minimum of 550mg/kg methylgyoxal content which is responsible for the remarkable properties in Manuka Honey.
As well as providing the well-known benefits of natural honey against winter ills and chills, the MGO™ Manuka honeys can support digestive health, wound healing and healthy skin, aiding the recovery from a sore throat and stomach ulcers.
Manuka Honey is collected from a plant that is unique to New Zealand – Leptospermum scoparium. The white flowers appear in spring and are much loved by the honey bees. Manuka flowers have a strong, aromatic fragrance and are full of the nectar which provides this dark, creamy honey.
Methylglyoxal – the active anti-bacterial compound in Manuka Honey
MGO™ Manuka Honey is labelled based on the minimum Methylglyoxal content (mg/kg) it contains. Methylglyoxal is the active compound directly responsible for the antibacterial activity of any Manuka honey and the MGO™ rating clearly indicates the minimum level of this compound in each jar.  No other system of measurement gives such a clear and simple indication.  The higher the Methylglyoxal content of MGO™ Manuka Honey, the stronger the antibacterial activity. For instance MGO™ 250+ has 2 1/2 times more antibacteiral content than MGO™ 100+.
A quick comparison of MGO™ Manuka Honey products in relation to their Methylglyoxal content (mg/kg) as follows:
