Is Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant going to damage my hair?

No, Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant is not only ammonia and resorcinol free (both harsh skin irritants) but is also enriched with vegetable ingredients designed for restructuring and protection. 9 out of 10 customers comment on the improvement of their hair condition upon using Naturtint.

Can I color my current dark tone to a lighter one with Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant?

Although it is hard to lighten the black and dark brown shades, it is possible to lighten all other colors up to 2 shades at a time.

Is Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant a new colorant?

No, Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant is a top quality colorant which has been successfully sold across Europe since 1984.

How long does it take to color my hair with Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant?

It simply takes 20-40 minutes once the colour has been mixed and applied.

Is Naturtint tested on animals and is it environmentally friendly?

No, Naturtint is not tested on animals and is manufactured to the very highest, international (GMP) standards of practice.

Furthermore, Naturtint uses biodegradable, recyclable eco-friendly packaging.

Can Naturtint be used if the customer has suffered severe allergic reactions to other hair color in the past?

Allergic reactions vary and a skin sensitivity test must be carried out at least 48 hours before application. Naturtint Permanent Hair colorant is hypallergenic and has been dermatologically tested but in rare cases, reactions can occur. If the customer has previously experienced redness and itching as a result of previous hair colorants then Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant is, in most cases, gentle enough and will not provoke any reaction on the skin test. Once the skin test has been successfully completed, the product may be applied. However, if the customer experiences swelling, blistering and/or burning then it is likely that they are allergic to PPD’s and a skin test will immediately demonstrate this – if so then the product must not be applied. In these cases, we recommend the use of Naturtint Reflex Shine on Color Rinses.

What are PPD’s?

They are p-phenylenediamines found in ALL permanent and some semi permanent hair colorants with the exclusion of certain hennas. They add colour to the hair but are severe skin irritants and in rare cases can provoke severe or extreme reactions. A PPD reaction would typically result in skin swelling, burning and blistering in the region where they are applied. Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant contains minimum levels of PPD whilst Naturtint Reflex Shine on Color Rinse is free of PPDs.

Do hair dyes cause cancer?

There is much controversy surrounding this question but research does not prove this to be the case. PPD’s are the main source of concern and as stated above, Naturtint contains minimum levels of PPD’s. Another feared chemical is resorcinol also found in most permanent hair dyes but Naturtint does not contain resorcinol (or ammonia).

How can you reduce toxicity and feared cancer risks?

By using a less aggressive hair colorant such as Naturtint, this avoids ammonia and resorcinol completely. Naturtint is also free of naphtol and hydroquinone which are strong chemicals often used in such products. Naturtint Reflex Shine on Color Rinse is even more gentle as it also contains no peroxide and no PPD. We suggest helpful advice:
48 hours before you colour your hair, remember to perform a skin sensitivity test, as a reaction on the arm is less harmful then a reaction across the whole of your head and face.
Try alternating between Naturtint Permanent and Reflex Shine on Color Rinse if Naturtint Reflex provides sufficient cover
Drink lots of water – ideally 8 hours prior to coloring hair and continue high water intake for at least the next 12 hours
Try a lighter color as the lighter shades contain progressively lower levels of PPD
Touch up areas of rapid regrowth with small amounts of Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant mixture and only color full head when necessary
Try highlights or lowlights using Naturting Permanent Hair Colorant. You may want the assistance of a hairdresser.
Don’t wash your hair prior to coloring as the scalp’s natural oils can provide a barrier to chemicals
Can Naturtint be used by cancer sufferers?

We have had excellent feedback from customers undergoing a course of chemotherapy treatment using Naturtint Reflex successfully. Crucially, it is free of peroxide as well as ammonia, resorcinol and PPD. We do strongly recommend any such customers seek medical approval before use. Some months after chemotherapy treatment is completed, many customers continue using Naturtint Reflex Shine on Color Rinse and/or move on to Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant without problems. We strongly recommend that the customer again seeks medical approval as to suitability. Full ingredient information is available from Nature’s Dream on request.

Can you use Naturtint whilst pregnant?

Many ladies continue to dye their hair during pregnancy and it is a very personal decision to make. Naturtint provides choice. Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant is free of two key chemicals – ammonia and resorcinol but Naturtint Reflex Shine on Color Rinse contains no ammonia, resorcinol, peroxide or PPD and therefore is the safer option.

Can Naturtint be used on other parts of the body?

Naturtint is not designed for facial or body hair and should not be used on eyebrows or eyelashes.

Can Naturtint be used on top of previously colored hair?

Most customers have used another colorant previous to trying Naturtint and we suggest wearing that color for 4-6 weeks before applying Naturtint.

We always suggest a strand test before use to ensure the chosen colour brings the desired result. Our helpline can then help if any uncertainties arise.

Can Naturtint be mixed?

Yes, many customers mix colours –

N = Natural
G = Golden
A = Ash
M = Mahogany
C = Copper
R = Red
I = Iridescent

(9R – should be treated

Colour Selection

The “Intense” & “Illusion*” colours are no different to the other colours [*I-9.31: I = Illusion, 1st no: 9 = darkness/lightness (so same pitch as 9N) & ask us about 2nd/3rd nos.]

Selecting Correct Color

Can go as dark as you like. If in doubt choosing between 2 colors, opt for the lighter color.

Can only lighten 1 or 2 numbers (on color chart) in one application, e.g. if person’s hair color is a 6N, then you should not use a colorant lighter than an 8N , 8C or 8G.

If you have very grey or white hair, it is best to avoid 10N & 10A (unless mixed with other colors) as they are too light to produce a significant color change.

Covering Grey – you may need to apply for up to 40 minutes (for areas that are very resistant to color – massage the area for full 40 minutes)

Select color from colour guide to your own color (will usually be from the Natural colors). If in doubt, select lighter color. However, you can try an even lighter colour – as a lighter shade is much more flattering against ageing skin & grey hair re-growth is less obvious against a lighter overall hair color.

Ash Colors – not to be used on their own unless you want to tone down hair color i.e. if too yellow, orange, brassy, golden, reddish. Otherwise only to be used as mixer colors.

Using Naturtint Permanent Hair Colorant

In each box of hair dye there is a small bottle that contains the actual hair colorant and a larger bottle that contains the color developer. You must always mix them in equal amounts.

You need not use the whole box each time you use Naturtint hair color e.g.

if you are just touching up your roots or patches of grey
if you have short hair
if you are mixing different colors
In a separate plastic/glass bowl, just mix up the amount of colorant and color developer that you require, leaving the remaining colorant and color developer separately in their own individual bottles with their tops on and they will both keep for several months.

Mixing Colors

Do Strand Test – using droplets of the colorants and their respective color developers, prepare a mixture of the different colors and place hair strands in it. You must use color developer from each of the boxes of color being mixed and not just the developer from one box, as they differ in content. Once the correct proportions have been established (usually 50:50), prepare enough to cover the hair in question.

Most common mixtures:

When using Natural colors, if you tend to go too red, golden, brassy, yellow then mix in equal amounts of an Ash color. With 6N, 7N, 8N – use 8A OR with 9N or 10N – use 10A.
Only mix Ash colors with Natural & Golden colors.
For a more beige look (popular with older customers)- use 2/3 10A & 1/3 of 9N.
To tone down Mahogany colors – 4M, 5M or 7M – mix with similar number of a Natural color.
To mellow Coppers – 7C or 8C – mix with similar number of a Natural color
