OmegaFactors Marine Algae-3 is a 100% vegetarian source of both eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) long chain omega-3 fatty acids. It is made from specially selected microalgae grown in a controlled environment, eliminating the risk of ocean-borne contaminants such as PCBs and dioxins. The microalgae are from a sustainable source that doesnât deplete the oceanâs natural reserves of algae. Good manufacturing practices (GMPs) are followed to ensure the highest quality product.
Microalgae are a key source of EPA and DHA in the food chain and their availability as a dietary supplement is a major advance in human nutrition. Other plant sources of omega-3s, such as flax, chia, and hemp seeds, contain alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a shorter chain omega-3, which the body must convert into EPA and DHA â a process that is not very efficient. One study found that less than 0.4% of ALA was converted to EPA and DHA combined. Marine Algae-3 provides highly concentrated, preformed EPA and DHA, bypassing the need for conversion.
Each softgel provides 360 mg of EPA and DHA, without the fishy smell or aftertaste typical of some fish oil supplements. As a source of EPA and DHA, Marine Algae-3 is an excellent vegetarian alternative to fish oil.

Harvested from specially selected microalgae that produce EFAs naturally
A 100% fish-free, non-GMO source of both EPA and DHA
No fishy smell or aftertaste
Vegetarian and vegan friendly
How it works
A diet deficient in omega-3s, particularly EPA and DHA, results in altered cell membranes. Without a healthy membrane, cells lose their ability to hold water, vital nutrients, and electrolytes. They also lose their ability to communicate with other cells and be controlled by regulating hormones. Cell membrane dysfunction is a critical factor in the development of virtually all chronic diseases, especially cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease. Long-chain omega-3s have tremendous protective effects against all these diseases.
EPA and DHA are also transformed into regulatory compounds known as prostaglandins, which carry out many important tasks. They regulate inflammation, pain, and swelling; help maintain blood pressure; and regulate heart, digestive, and kidney function. Prostaglandins also participate in the response to allergies, help control nerve signal transmission, and help regulate hormone production. Through their effects on prostaglandins and related compounds, long chain omega-3s can mediate many physiological processes, making them useful in virtually every disease state.
DHA is especially important to brain function, and makes up 30â40% of the long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in the cerebral cortex. DHA is responsible for cell membrane fluidity, receptor strength, and control of signalling molecules in the brain. DHA also affects dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine regulation.
